The key topics at productronica 2023

At the world's largest trade fair for electronics production, innovations from the industry's entire value chain will be on display and current topics will be discussed. Topics of high relevance to electronics production develop into leading themes for the industry—and thus into key topics for productronica.

In cooperation with the VDMA and the productronica advisory board, we have identified three topics that are currently occupying the industry: AI in electronics manufacturing, power electronics as a core component of a sustainable world, and sensors in electronics manufacturing.

AI in electronics manufacturing: smarter production

Despite an already high level of automation in manufacturing, the need for even more efficient production processes is growing. The use of AI opens up numerous productivity levers along the electronics production chain.

Manufacturing companies have been working for years to digitize their production. Machines are being networked and more and more data is being generated. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to extract valuable information from this treasure trove of data. Especially in the highly competitive electronics industry, they can automate processes, increase production flexibility, reduce energy costs and resource consumption, and improve quality.

Power electronics: core components for a more sustainable world

Power electronics is playing an increasingly important role in the generation, distribution and use of electrical energy. As a result, it makes a significant contribution to the efficiency of increasingly sustainable societies.

Power semiconductors are irreplaceable for the transition to a climate-neutral and digital society. In particular, the industrial, renewable energy and automotive sectors are currently generating increasing demand and will continue to do so in the future. All with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions, increasing system efficiency and driving digitalization. Not surprisingly, the focus is on applications such as electric cars, photovoltaics and wind turbines.

Sensors in electronics manufacturing: Production with all senses

Sensors are the key technology for intelligent machines and plants in networked production. As the most important data supplier, they enable the digitization of the entire value chain.

Few developments have changed the world of work as much as digitalization. The main drivers of change are ubiquitous connectivity and the use of sensors to monitor real operating conditions.

The programmable logic controller: all-rounder in automation technology

Automation has a firm foothold in the manufacturing industry, and programmable logic controllers (PLC) play a key role in that, despite questions regularly arising about their justification in times of digitalization and large volumes of data. Condition monitoring, data analytics, or predictive maintenance bring industrial PCs (IPC) to mind rather than a control technology from the 1970s.
