A half-century at the Pulse of Innovation: productronica celebrates its anniversary! Launched in 1975, the world’s leading trade fair for electronics development and manufacturing continues to inspire professionals from around the globe. Join us at productronica 2025 to celebrate together—and help kick off the next fifty years with energy and vision!
The productronica success story
As the first dedicated trade fair in Germany for electronics development and manufacturing, productronica made its debut in Munich in 1975. The inaugural event was a complete success: 94 companies from 12 countries showcased their innovations to more than 3,900 professional visitors from 33 countries.
The concept worked. By its fourth edition in 1981, productronica had already established itself as the leading international trade fair—with 667 exhibitors from 21 countries.
For 50 years now, it has been a favorite industry gathering and a key stage for world premieres and technological breakthroughs. Time and again, productronica has showcased major innovation leaps that shape the electronics sector for years to come.
50 years of new ideas for the future
1975: The start of productronica
A brand-new trade fair concept: beyond traditional booths, the event featured live demos and hands-on zones.
1980-1990: The rise of automation
In 1985, surface-mount technology took center stage. The pick-and-place machines on display were the early ancestors of today’s high-end systems.
1990-2000: Global Unity—Innovation in Transition
Digital integration and lean manufacturing gained traction in the 1990s. The EU project JESSI was launched to boost innovation, Asia’s production market grew rapidly - and productronica became a truly global industry hub.
2000-2010: Giant innovation leaps into the new millennium
Chip miniaturization, microsystems technology, eGrains, cyber-physical systems, LCD flat screens—technological development surged, opening up future markets and milestones.
2010-2020: Experiencing industry 4.0 live
Big data, robotics, CPS, and Industry 4.0 grew more vital. Augmented and virtual reality gave visitors insight into complex processes and new perspectives at productronica.
2025: Pulse of Innovation
With AI and digital twins, a new era of innovation is transforming electronics manufacturing. Just like every year since 1975, the global industry meets again in 2025—to shape the future together.
