The four stages when adopting new habits
Every year, even the most promising resolutions are soon forgotten as we go about our daily business. Read on to find out how you can turn your plans into lasting habits.
1. First of all, remind yourself which individual habits you would like to adopt.
2. Each time that you actually do one of these activities, deliberately catch yourself doing it and feel proud or happy about it. Yes, be sure to feel these two emotions.
3. While you do this (and this is what really matters) think about other resolutions and practices that you would like to become a habit. Imagine how it feels to actually do these things.
4. Whenever you find or catch yourself doing one of the things that you would like to make into a habit, consciously feel happy – ideally with a quiet smile – that you are doing it.
