How to handle lateral thinkers

Companies need creative employees. Read here how to handle them.

  • You have to identify creative minds. Many employees don't even realize their own creative potential. So how are their bosses expected to recognize it? There are such things as creativity tests, but they are usually too theoretical. A more effective method is to regularly give the employees creative problems to solve and see who is best able to do this.
  • You have to retain creative minds. Creative employees get bored easily. Too much routine work suffocates them. In many cases, challenging and fascinating tasks are more important to them than a wage rise.
  • You have to tolerate creative minds. This is often the most difficult part: not seeing ideas as criticism but as a practical contribution. And accepting that not every idea is a Nobel Prize candidate.
