Steel industry has the highest safety risk for its workers safety due to its extreme working conditions such as temperatures and gas levels. Provide an accurate monitor and control of all the risks factors can help to minimize that risk at the same time it can improve production quality and reduce production costs.

Industrial Sensing for Smart Europe (IS4SE) aims to develop new innovative solutions to reduce costs, improve quality on products and production lines, improve productivity and safety in steel production plants through the integration of sensoring solutions that can be combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) models.
IS4SE proposes a hybrid sensor solution that allows both to monitor production process and environment quality. This solution includes three printed sensors that allow monitoring environment quality by measuring the level of O2 on the shopfloor and to monitor production quality through the monitoring of different parameters on the steel production line, namely the position of the steel sheet with an inductive sensor and the wear on the ebonite layer that protects the sheet from scratches on the acid tank by another flexible device. This solution also includes the integration of several bulk sensors that can be widely used in industrial environments, not only in steel industry, it includes vibration, temperature, flow and gas sensors.
Monitoring the production process will allow a better awareness of process and product’s quality, it will allow better control of the equipment and of its maintenance needs and analyze data from line equipment’s, which can be in areas with difficult access. The continuous monitoring and later prediction of failures on the production line will allow workers and the company to have a safer working environment. Allowing workers to have a safer work environment at the same time provides a better maintenance strategy and assures an improvement of productivity and production quality.
