Smart Maintenance – sie kann helfen, die Auswirkungen des Fachkräftemangels zu dämpfen oder den Wissenstransfer beim Generationenwechsel sicherzustellen. Als Herzstück der Industrie 4.0 trägt sie vor allem dazu bei, Ausfallzeiten durch Instandhaltungs- und Wartungsarbeiten zu minimieren oder gar Produktionsausfälle zu verhindern. Dadurch bringt Smart Maintenance eine immense Kostenersparnis – und zwar letztlich überall dort, wo Produktionsanlagen im Einsatz sind, sei es im Maschinenbau oder in der Automobilindustrie. Dr. Andreas Dankl, Geschäftsführer der MCP Deutschland GmbH, berät seit über 20 Jahren Industrieunternehmen dabei, die Performance ihrer Instandhaltung und ihr Instandhaltungsmanagement zu verbessern, Prozesse zu optimieren. Auf dem Smart Maintenance Pavillon der productronica, der Weltleitmesse für Entwicklung und Fertigung von Elektronik, gibt Dankl im Gespräch mit dem Hörfunkredakteur Nils Paul einen Überblick über die Chancen, die in der Smart Maintenance liegen. Er verrät auch, dass viele bei der Umsetzung erst am Anfang stehen. Sein Plädoyer: Mehr unternehmerischer Mut zur Investition in Krisenzeiten!

Industry 4.0—a term that inspires the imagination of companies. There is even talk about the fourth industrial revolution. The concept of Industry 4.0 is characterized by a comprehensive digital interconnectedness of people, machines, resources and products. One of the core elements is the Smart Factory. This is not only about the fusion of IT and production technology, but ultimately about a fundamental change in the entire corporate culture and structure. Because, in the future, people, machines and products will permanently communicate with each other along the entire value chain. Interconnectedness is the greatest strength of the Smart Factory, but also its greatest weakness. That is because theses interfaces of communication are always also security holes; this is where hackers find their way in, attackers could smuggle in viruses, for example, or tap knowledge about a company. It is a risk that scares many away. Editor Nils Paul and Dr. Sabine Trupp, head of the High Performance Center “Secure Intelligent Systems” at Fraunhofer EMFT, discussed the challenges for small and medium-sized companies on their way towards the Smart Factory.
